Colonial Elementary School in Pelham was evacuated as a precaution at approximately noon on Friday, Sept. 27, when there was reports of the smell of gas near the building.
Members from the Pelham Fire Department, Pelham Police Department and Con Edison all responded to the scene to investigate the gas odor.
School officials noted that all students were safe and accounted for during the evacuation. Students and staff have since been allowed back into the building and resumed a regular schedule.
“We are pleased to report that Colonial School has been cleared and students and staff are returning to the building,” district officials said. “(We) are extremely thankful to our Police Department, Fire Department, Con Edison and our teachers and staff for their quick response and assistance.”
